How to Choose a Treadmill

The name treadmill was first given to a mill which was used for grinding grain. Later, they were used as a form of punishment. In modern times, treadmills are used for exercise and also as a diagnostic tool to test heart and lung power.

If you decide to buy a treadmill, be sure that you know how to use it. It is a good idea to use one at a club first. There are certain things you must consider before buying a treadmill for home use.

Decide upon the amount that you are willing to spend on the purchase. Prices range from $500 to about $3000. Based on price, treadmills can be classified into 3 types – budget, mid-range, and quality. You can choose one that fits in your budget.

Treadmills may be manual or motorised. The motor power of a treadmill is measured by its horse power rating. Many retailers list the peak performance of the machine. Peak performance is nothing but the maximum power. What you would be looking for is an exercise machine that can run for long periods of time with a significant load. What you need to look at is the continuous duty rating. If it is not listed, ask for it. Usually, a 1.5 to 2.5 HP machine would do nicely for home use.

Choose a popular brand. That way, you are less likely to end up with something you may not use. You can check with friends and family. You can also ask a personal trainer you know to guide you. If you don’t have time to exercise, it is best to buy a weight loss machine.
