There are many kinds of beds to choose from. A bedstead is perhaps the best choice as it is classy, contemporary and quite comfortable. If you are short on space, you could go for the storage beds, which have built in drawers, or the folding beds, in which one bed can be slid just beneath the other when not required. If you have knee or back problems, a very low bed is not desirable.
Quality offers support and comfort
It is not imperative that you get a very expensive bed and mattress set. At the same time if you scrimp, you may compromise on quality. The key is to look for the best value and not the price. The mattress should offer both support and comfort. It should be firm enough to support your body, so that the spine does not arch. Comfort is necessary for good sleep.
This is the most standard mattress. It consists of foam and padding, covering a core of springs. The springs support the body, while the padding gives comfort.
Latex Mattress, which is natural rubber, is used to make mattresses. These are expensive, but can last as long as twenty five years. They do not harbour dust mites and are thus, good for people with allergies.
Ordinary foam is not a good material, as it is bouncy and does not support the body. Memory foam, also called viscoelastic is a better material for mattresses. It takes a longer time to recover, after you have moved around in your sleep. It supports the body evenly.
A waterbed is a mattress containing water inside a wooden frame resting on a platform. It looks like a conventional bed and mattress system. It supports the body well. It is however, expensive and difficult to move.
Test the Mattress
Lie upon the mattress in the stores for a while to check for support. Have someone to check that there is no gap between the bed and where your spine arches.
