How to Get CPR First Aid Training

CPR First Aid Training

CPR First Aid training teaches students how to provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation in emergency situations. It educates them on the proper techniques used in the process. It also shows them the proper guidelines on how to deal with people with different ailments and health emergencies, such as those who have stopped breathing, stopped heartbeat, drowned or had a heart attack.

What to Expect?

The program teaches students:

• The proper response to unconscious individuals
• How to implement the DRSABCD Action Plan
• When and how to call emergency services
• How to manage unresponsive individuals
• How to put individuals in a recovery position
• How to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation on different ages (adults, babies and elderly)
• How to clear airways of individuals (adults, children and babies)
• The possible complications resulting from the resuscitation process
• How and when to use a defibrillator

Candidates in this course should expect a mixed form of teaching. All students are required to complete at least two hours of mandatory face-to-face training. This includes group activities and training simulations. Before these physical training sessions start, all candidates must complete a four-hour online learning program. An assessment is needed before being allowed to participate in the training sessions.

This course does not require any prerequisites. There are only two requirements:

• All applicants must be at least 18 years old
• The applicant must possess good English and Math skills. If the candidate cannot provide a certification, they can take a Language, Literacy and Numeracy test. This assesses the capabilities of the applicant.

Once successfully completing the course, all students will get a statement of attainment. The certificate is valid for 12 months after it’s rewarded. Once expired, the course needs to be taken again for recertification. The program has a broad range of applications in the fields of:

• Personal Care
• Education
• Nursing
• Hospital Care
• Housekeeping
• Lifeguarding
• Childcare

Training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation should be administered by accredited institutions. When picking out a school, make sure that they train according to the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.
